How to submit your short films

Make sure you read and agree to the Terms & Conditions before completing and submitting the application form.

Send a DVD viewing copy of your short film with the signed completed Submission Form to the address on the form.

How much does this cost and what happens to any proceeds? There is a submission fee of £20 per film. After this year's selection has taken place, 100% of revenues from film festival awards go directly back to the film makers. Revenues generated by our Sales Agent through International Broadcast fees, Screenings, etc are split 35% to the Sales Agent and 65% for the film makers.

Our strategy

Best British Short Films 2011 is a promotional project solely for British made short films. Our aim is to promote up to 10 shorts - selected by a panel of industry representatives, with the chosen films being proactively promoted to attract wide exposure, to win awards and prize money. These revenues are then distributed back to the film makers to enable them to carry on doing what they do best - making films.

So how does this work?

The selected films are collated in a promotional folder with a compilation DVD, flyers and EPK (electronic press kit) - branded as the Best British Short Films 2011 and is now become widely recognised by many festivals for its quality over quantity.

Previous success stories include:

  1. BAFTA for Short Film 2011 for UNTIL THE RIVER RUNS RED

  2. Jury Prize at Clermont-Ferrand 2010 for MARKER
  3. Palm d’Or at Cannes 09 for AFTER TOMORROW
  4. Silver Bear winner at Berlinale for JADE

The collection of films are then submitted to over 300 international short film festivals/competitions over an 18 month period, (we believe that submitting films to festivals without competition is a backwards step in terms of progressing film makers' careers). We also collaborate with film festivals that have buyers attending. In fact we work tirelessly to ensure the best promotion possible is given the Best British Short Films each year.

The films benefit from regular official screenings in the competitions, and are able to retain 100% of any prize monies. The profiles of the films are increased along with the possibility of additional revenues through screenings to attract the interest of TV buyers, theatrical distributors and others.

Our staff host a stand at Europe's premier showcase for short films - Clermont-Ferrand where we also promote the selected films. To help facilitate interest from overseas clients, we have enlisted the services of Europe's most successful short film sales agent - FREAK, who’ll be taking care of handling all the interested buyers to ensure the best possible deals are made. Freak will represent the films on an exclusive basis and will therefore require the rights' owner of the selected films to enter into a sales agency agreement with them.

We are also developing an online portal, mobile phone apps and commercial DVD to help monetise your film and make sure it reaches the widest possible audience. Best British Short Films is your promotional vehicle to realise your short film’s full potential.
